The economy may be reeling under the pressure of inflation, but this hardly seems to have had any impact on the RCOM chief Anil Ambani, whose pay packet swelled almost six fold over the past fiscal. From around Rs 2.4 Crore in the year ended March 2007, Anil Ambani's full-year pay hiked to Rs 13.4 Crore in the latest fiscal from the four listed group companies.
The point to be noted is that that this new figure does take into account his take from the flagship company, Reliance Communications (RCOM). RCOM is responsible for more than 50 per cent of the total valuation of the group. In comparison elder brother Mukesh Ambani, who in all probability is the highest paid businessman in
Mukesh too gets his salary from only the flagship entity RIL, out of the three listed group companies - Reliance Industries, Reliance Petroleum and Reliance Industrial Infrastructure Ltd. The latest figure of Rs 13.4 Crore for Anil Ambani boils down to over Rs 4 per second for 2007-08, against less than Re one per second in the previous year.
