To the recent visit to the inaugural function of Mumbai's sea link on Wednesday, the icon of Bollywood Amitabh Bachchan was questioned about his presence by the Maharashtra CM Ashok Chavan to which the actor thundered with anger.
Bachchan in his network site defended, "A fresh controversy has been rapidly manufactured on my involvement in today's event on the sea link. I had been invited by a Minister in the Government to attend and so I went along."
The Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in observance to Amitabh’s presence in Bandra-Worli sealink were stirred with anger and complained to the party chief Sonia Gandhi about it who later reflecting on to this matter asked explanation from CM Ashok Chavan about his sharing of the same dais with the actor.
To this objection of Sonia, CM Chavan informed, "If I would have known that Amitabh Bachchan was invited I would not have not gone. Bachchan’s name was not there in the invitation (circulated by the organisers). I don’t know what a person, who is brand ambassador of neighbouring Gujarat, was doing at the ceremony,
Clarifying into this matter the Hindustan Construction Company (HCC who had built the sealink along with the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation, claimed that the actor had been invited by the NCP to add glamour to the event. A HCC official stated,  “NCP’s other choice was (cricketer) Sachin Tendulkar.”
