Nobel laureate economist Amartya Sen has been included in the reform panel of IMF. The reform panel is established to advice the International Monetary Fund (IMF) modifications so that the global agency could bring out its programs more effectively. Dominique Strauss-Kahn, MD of IMF said that the panel is aimed to asses the adequacy of its current framework for decision-making.
Other panelists are: Michel Camdessus (former Managing Director of the IMF), Kenneth Dam (Professor at the University of Chicago), Mohamed El-Erian (co-CEO of Pacific Investment Management Co), Sri Mulyani Indrawati (Minister of Finance of Indonesia), Guillermo Ortiz (Governor of the Bank of Mexico), and Robert Rubin (Senior Counselor) Citigroup.
The panel headed by South African Finance Minister Trevor Manuel is comprised of many well-known personalities from all across the globe. Strauss-Kahn said that there has been a radical progress in the reform of the Fund's governance, including the initiation of a process to realign members' voting power within the Fund. Probably, panel would show its perspective on reform efforts in April 2009.
