The legislative investigative report of Alaska has accused Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin of abusing her power as governor. As per the report, Palin has misused her power by pressuring subordinates to fire a state trooper reportedly involved in a dispute with her family. The Alaska inquiry found that Palin was continuously pressuring the state's public safety commissioner, Walt Monegan to remove Michael Wooten who was involved in a divorce and custody battle with her sister. When Walt Monegan refused to obey her order, she eventually fired him. The removal of Monegan led to the implementation of Alaska investigation.

The investigation claimed that the governor has used her power for personal gains. While giving its view on the report of the investigation, the Republican Party said that Palin has rightly used her power in removing Walt Monegan. The McCain-Palin campaign has pointed finger on supporters of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and said that it’s a planned effort to disrupt their campaign. The Alaska investigation was commissioned in July by Alaska's Legislative Council composed of 10 Republican lawmakers and four Democrats. The investigation report also said that Palin's office was also used by her husband Tood Palin to accomplish the process of removing Monegan.
