Akhil Kumar has given hope for another medal for India in Beijing Olympics. In a boxing match played at the Workers' Gymnasium; he defeated world champion Sergey Vodopyanov and reached into quarter-final of the 54kg category. He is just one win away from bronze medal; he however is full of confidence for gold medal and not willing to compromise less than gold.
This boxer from Haryana won the match after a trailing of 2-6 at one stage; however, subsequently he drew parity in the dying seconds and won on points. At the end of the match both the boxers were leveled at 9-9, Akhil was declared the winner on points. Akhil on his success commented that it was not easy against world champ but once he leveled the score, he knew he cannot lose.
After the win, he was full of confidence. Telling about his prospect in next match he said that it's not possible to assure of the gold but he can tell that he is in Beijing to win only gold. He however knows what it means to fight in quarters; he said that things would not be easy, and in fact it would get even more difficult from now onwards.
