Former Star India president, Ajay Vidyasagar has been appointed as the chief operating officer of Sun TV Network. Kalanithi Maran-promoted television network broadcasts 20 television channels in the four South Indian languages and also operates 42 FM radio stations across India. This is for the first time that Sun TV Network has a COO on its board.
Ajay Vidyasagar has worked with Star India for a period of over 13 years and has played a vital role in launching Kaun Banega Crorepati, part 2 and 3. He was also instrumental in introducing a new channel called Star One. Vidyasagar also spearheaded Star India’s tie-ups with brands like Disney and Hungama.
The Sun TV Network is one of the prolific media company in South India. Last year, the Sun TV Network has expanded its operation in movie production and distribution and has distributed as many as eight Kollywood movies. The company is currently producing the Rajnikanth-Aishwarya Rai starrer ‘Endhiran’ with a budget of over Rs 100 crore.
According to the management division of the company, Sun TV Network is considering to procure a general entertainment channel in Hindi. Now the appointment of Ajay Vidyasagar is expected to help the company greatly if it acquires a Hindi channel. Vidyasagar earned a BA degree from Madras University and has done post graduate certificate programmes from the Indian School of Business.
