Those in India can now choose to present their near and dear ones the very chic Apple iPhone this Dipawali! On Monday 12 May, India's largest mobile operator Bharti Airtel declared that it has entered into an alliance with the US-based Apple Inc. to launch its popular GSM-based iPhone here. Though a telco statement said that the iPhone will come to India during the second half of 2008, sources inform that it may hit the market around Diwali time.
The announcement of Airtel to bring the Apple iPhone into India follows mobile phone operator Vodafone’s declaration the previous week that it will launch the said phone in a number of markets across the globe, including India. No details, however, has been divulged about the price of the iPhone or any other detail about the agreement with Apple Inc. But it is being widely speculated that the device can be procured from the grey market in the price range 500 to 600 dollars or Rs 25,000 approximately.
