The four-day Airtel India Golf Festival has kick started at the Qutub Golf Course in Delhi on November 27, 2008. The fourth golf festival is being sponsored by telecom giant Bharti Airtel. According to Delhi Development Authority (DDA) sports director, D. Sarkar it is very pleasing to host the Airtel India Golf Festival for the third consecutive year. The tournament will continue till November 30 offering the people of Delhi to experience high class golfing. The event will see about 400 golfers. D. Sarkar said that the tournament will help to promote golf tourism in the city apart from informing that DDA will set up two more golf courses in Delhi.
 
Speaking on the occasion, Australian Golf Course Superintendents Association president Alan Devlin said that India offers a viable platform for the promotion of golf. The country can easily emerge as one of the top destinations for golf in the Asia Pacific region. According to Rishi Narain, former Asian Games gold medalist in golf, the organisation of such golf tournaments generates great awareness about the game. He added that it is because of such tournaments that about 50 new golf course projects involving 20 billion of investment have been started in various parts of India.
