Telecom major Aircel today launched its services in Delhi. Launching of services in Delhi is part of a bigger plan under which, Malaysia-based Maxis Group will invest $5 billion to roll out services in the 10 telecom circles in India including Delhi, where it is not present right now. The Group aspires to set up 3G network in India. The plan will be carried out through Aircel, Maxis Group's vehicle in New Delhi.

Speaking at the launch of Aircel services in the Delhi market, Sandip Das, CEO, Maxis Communications said that, the company has slotted an investment of $10 billion for the 23 circles in India out of which $5 billion has been spent. However, this expenditure excludes what the company will spend for the coming auctions of third-generation (3G) spectrum. At present the company is operating in 13 circles.

Das also hoped that, his company would finish its  pan-India rollout in next 24 months. They have 17 million subscribers on their network in India and they hope to increase it to 30 million by the end of the year, he added. Aircel launched its operations in Delhi with competitive segment-wise rate offerings. But, the company is unlikely to pass on the benefit of reduced termination charges to the consumer.
