Jet Airways has announced an increase in the fuel surcharge by Rs. 400. This is applicable to all the domestic sectors with effect from 17.06.09, Wednesday. It is very likely that the other airlines will also follow the steps of Jet Airways. Thus, travelling by air is going to cost you more.
The new surcharge will be applicable on all the tickets of this premier air carrier as well as for the two low fare subsidiaries - JetLite and Jet Airways Konnect. This new surcharge will now stand at Rs. 3,400 per ticket.
A spokesperson for the Jet Airways told that the airlines has planned to increase the fuel surcharge on all the domestic sector, which will be effective for all the tickets which are being brought from June 17, 2009.
The ATF prices had gone up by 33% during March 2009, which has now pressurized the airlines to increase the fuel surcharge.
According to a spokesperson from Air India, they are also considering a serious revision of fares in an upward fashion, which is also due to the ATF price increase. According to him, Air India will let the customers know its decision in another “couple of days”. The current levels of fuel surcharges levied by Air India are Rs. 1950 and Rs. 2700 for up to and beyond 750 Km respectively.
The Kingfisher officials also told that they were also considering the hike in the air tickets which will be finalised very soon.
Bharat Petroleum, Indian Oil and Hindustan Petroleum had increased the ATF prices by about Rs. 3,949 during March, making the ATF prices Rs. 36,252 per kilolitre.
