Air Marshal P K Barbora has been named as the new vice-chief of the Indian Air Force (IAF). The seasoned fighter pilot, Barbora will join his office from June 1. Currently he is serving as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Delhi-based Western Air Command (WAC), which is the most important operational area for the IAF, as it comprises Kashmir, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and parts of Rajasthan.
P K Barbora will take the charge of IAF vice-chief from Air Marshal PV Naik. After his appointment to the new post, Air Marshal N A K Browne will take the responsibility of WAC. The post of IAF vice-chief will be vacated on May 31 when PV Naik will take over as the 22nd chief of the Indian Air Force from Air Chief Marshal Fali Homi.
Apart from these appointments, Air Marshal NV Tyagi will replace Air Marshal Browne as the new Deputy Chief of Air Staff (DCAS). Tyagi is currently holding the post of Senior Air Staff Officer (SASO) at Gandhinagar-based South Western Air Command (SWAC). After Tyagi's elevation, his office will be taken over by Director-general (air operations) Air Marshal D C Kumaria.
