Air India, the national air carrier, has disclosed on Tuesday that it is maintaining a reserve crew as well as aircraft, which can be sued by the Jet Airways, in case of emergency.
"We are in talks with the government and Jet Airways officials," Air India spokesperson Jitendra Bhargava said.
"In the event of need to operate special flights to help stranded passengers, we would do so for which we have kept on stand-by aircraft and crew," Bhargava added.
He also added that advance permission has been taken from Directorate General of Civil Aviation for lending a helping hand to the ailing Jet Airways.
According to Bhargava, the carrier had already been accommodating as many stranded passengers as possible in not only on the existing domestic routes but also overseas flights that transit through Indian cities.
About 20,000 passengers had suffered after around 200 pilots of the Jet Airways went on a mass ‘sick’ leave.
