A bilateral deal has been inked by Air India and Singapore Airlines, according to which the passengers will be provided an opportunity to earn and redeem miles on the both the operators’ flights.
The new agreement, which will be effective from Sep 15, is excessively meant for frequent fliers of Singapore Airlines and Air India.
The agreement is an effort of the national carrier to fulfil the conditions of joining the Star Alliance, of which SIA is a founder member. According to the agreement the SIA's KrisFlyer programme members can earn KrisFlyer miles during their Air India flights or they can redeem the miles with Air India.
The Air India's Flying Returns programme members can use their miles on Singapore airlines or earn miles during their travel on Singapore Airlines.
"Singapore Airlines is pleased to welcome Air India on board. The addition of Air India as a KrisFlyer partner boosts the number of carriers we have such agreements with to 28.
"Those who fly frequently with Singapore Airlines and Air India now have more opportunity to increase their frequent flyer miles, and more choice in deciding how best to use their miles," Huang Cheng Eng, Singapore Airlines' Executive Vice President Marketing and the Regions, said.
SIA operates 42 times a week to six destinations in India. With the inclusion of subsidiary carrier SilkAir, the Singapore Airlines route network covers 93 destinations in 38 countries.
