Here is a good news for people who travel on flights. The leading carriers of the country, Air India and Kingfisher have lowered the airfares by Rs 350-500 on each ticket in the domestic routes. Apart from fare cut on domestic services, the carriers have also reduced fares of international flights by Rs 1200-10,000. The statement from Air India confirmed that, the company has eliminated the transaction fees of Rs 350 to Rs 10,000 per ticket on domestic and international routes. The carriers had introduced the transaction fee on November 1 as per an agreement with travel agents.

According to reports, the carriers exercised that move after they stopped sharing commission with the travel agents. The customers will get the facility of reduced airfares if they book through Air India's offices or website or call-centre, informed company's spokesperson. The cut in airfares will bring the much-needed relief to people as the carriers have increased airfares five times since early this year showing soaring prices of air turbine fuel as the reason.

Meanwhile, the low-cost airline, SpiceJet had already reduced its airfares. According to the director of SpiceJet, Ajay Singh the carrier had been able to cut fares because of the decline in jet fuel prices. Over the last couple of months, the aviation industry was suffering immensely owing to economic slow down and fuel price hike. Many of the carriers had to lose a huge chunk of customers due to hike in air fares. Now with the reduction in prices, the aviation industry is likely to retain its good health.
