Here is a good news for Indian agricultural education institutes. The Union Cabinet of India has sanctioned an amount of Rs.22.76 billion (USD 460 million) to strengthen and develop higher agricultural education in the country. Announcing the decision of the cabinet panel, the Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), Prithviraj Chavan informed that out of the total amount, 11.25 billion will be spent on development and strengthening of agricultural universities.
 
On the other hand, in order to modernize the agricultural university farms an amount of Rs 4.21 billion will be spent. The remaining money will be invested on sectors like niche areas of excellence and experiential learning. 
 
The boost in agricultural education will develop human resource of the country that will contribute to sustainable development of agriculture. The central government's new agricultural education scheme will also aim at the improvement of structural and infrastructure facilities like classrooms, laboratories, girls' and boys' hostels, international hostels, libraries, museums, sports complexes and examination halls. Fellowships and students' amenities will also be provided under the new schemes.
