An advisory for the Hajj pilgrims of India has been issued by the external affairs ministry for the prevention of epidemic swine flu while they fly to Saudi Arabia for the annual Hajj pilgrimage.
The advisory restricts the pilgrims from sharing greetings in the form of shaking the hands and hugging, but mandatory religious habits are acceptable. The other activities which have been restricted by the advisory include spitting in public as well as use if medicines without prescription.
The first batch of pilgrims is expected to leave for Saudi Arabia in the second half of October.
The advisory had come from the ministry of health and family welfare first, after which the external affairs ministry adopted it as it handles the Haj pilgrimage.
