Former BJP President M Venkaiah Naidu mentioned that L K Advani will not lead BJP for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. He also added that the party will find a new leader for the same.
"Advani is not going to contest the next elections. We are not going to fight the next elections under his leadership. Next general elections are going to happen when... you know (2014)," said Naidu to a TV channel.
He was replying when asked whether Advani will be leading BJP for 2014 elections, as he will be completing 87 by then. He also mentioned that it would be logical for BJP to go for a new leader, with the person chosen a couple of years before the elections.
When asked about the next BJP chief, Naidu said, "Political parties discuss issues and then come to conclusions according to the need of the hour and by consensus".
He added that Advani, who had been elected as the Opposition Leader for the 15th Lok Sabha, had quit the post on his will.
"Whenever he (Advani) wants to make way for others, it is his choice. Nobody has given him any deadline....," Naidu said.
Naidu justified the continuation of Advani as head of the BJP Parliamentary Party, though the latter was "reluctant to accept" and had to be "persuaded".
