Veteran rock bands AC/DC and Iron Maiden will go head-to-head for the coveted honour of world’s best band in Classic Rock Magazine’s 2009 awards.

AC/DC has been nominated in three categories – Band of the Year, Event of the Year, and Album of the Year for their disc 'Black Ice'. Iron Maiden has also been nominated for the Band of the Year award along with Metallica, Faith No More, and Kings of Leon, according to the reports.

Iron Maiden will also compete for the Film of the Year prize, going up against Kiss, The Rolling Stones, and Neil Young.

Reformed spoof rock act Spinal Tap are nominated in the Event of the Year category, while newcomers The Parlor Mob received nods for Best New Band and Album of the Year.

The winners will be announced at Classic Rock's Roll of Honour 2009 ceremony in London in November.
