Aava Mobile has just released the first fully open mobile device for next generation smartphones and tablets having PC-like features.

This is touted to be the first fully open mobile device, which is designed to help the  system manufacturers and Carriers who can customize both the hardware and software along with  helping the established developer communities.

The reference design is based on Intel’s next generation Atom processor based platform, called ‘Moorestown’. It is expected to be executed for the handheld, smartphone and tablet market segments. Apart from that long battery life and a powerful mobile will be possible through the reference design.

“There is so much creativity that can be harnessed when you free yourself from the confines of a proprietary design and give developer communities an open platform and some tools to play with. So Aava Mobile saw an opportunity to make an entirely open mobile device,” stated Markus Appel, CEO of Aava Mobile.

“Based on the Intel Moorestown platform, the Aava device delivers an outstanding performance and user experience. We are open on the hardware side with our standardized I/O ports and the ecosystem of peripheral docking devices that openness encourages, and we are open on the software side with our Moblin and Android operating systems,” he added.

Aava Mobile is only 64 x 125 x 11.7 mm in thickness and is the thinnest x86 based smartphone device. It also supports Linux-based Moblin 2.1 and Android OS.

More to it, this open standards platform will help third party companies to create add-on products to exist in the market. Developers can come with new devices by taking license from Aava Mobile’s reference design technology
