A 6.1 magnitude earthquake rocked the waters of the Vancouver Island on the morning of Thursday, August 29, raising apprehensions that it could lead to a tsunami. The Natural Resources Canada, however, opined that an earthquake of 6.1 magnitudes may be potent but not enough to raise a tsunami.

They informed that this area has been hit by many earthquakes since Monday. Officials from the agency further added that the quake occurred at 5.37 am. Of those that have been occurring since Monday, they said this was the biggest of 'a series of earthquakes occurring in the seismically active region'.

'These earthquakes are too far offshore to be felt on land and too small to generate a tsunami,' said one official. It was the coast of West Vancouver Island that had been struck by the earthquake. Glen Plummer, the spokesperson for Emergency Management British Columbia said there is no reason to be anxious about.
