According to a report by a group of researchers at Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, in Washington, 58 percent of the world population will be the victim of obesity, by 2030.The data was analyzed by Tanika Kelly, a doctoral candidate at Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. In her book, "Global Burden of Obesity in 2005 and Projections to 2030”, she mentioned that one third of the world is already considered as overweight.
This research is one of the most important ones conducted till date. As it has penetrated deep into the subject and then given a conclusion. It peer-reviewed data from over 100 countries and compiled it into one comprehensive global estimate for obesity. The study states that till the year 2005, approximately 23.2% of the world's adult population was overweight and 9.8% was obese. More or less 937 million adults were overweight and 396 million were obese.
If a similar trend continues, the number of overweight individuals will double, to 2.16 billion, by 2030 and the number of obese adults will grow up to 1.12 billion, during the same period of time. The researchers said that the high incidence of overweight and obesity, along with their associated health risks, had made it a pertinent worldwide public health challenge. Many developed countries have already started taking public health initiatives, but the developing countries are still lagging behind.
