The telecom ministry has set Jan 14, 2014 as the date for the auctioning of third generation (3G) radio spectrum.
The memorandum issues has asked the potential bidders to submit the bid by Dec 21 for the 71 spectrum blocks spread across 20 of India's 22 telecoms zones.
This auctioning, which will pave the way for high-speed Internet and video downloads on mobile phones, had been slated to take place in January this year. But the discrepancies in opinions of telecom ministry, finance ministry and defence ministry over issues related to security and reserve price for the bids had forced the auction to be put off.
The government did not give a reason for the second extension.
The base price for 3G spectrum across the country has been set at 35 billion rupees ($750 million), and Telecoms Minister A Raja has mentioned that government hopes to earn at least 250 billion rupees from the sale.
