The General Motors Company was planning a stupendous launch of its much-touted 2011 Chevrolet Volt hybrid car. But all that got botched up on Monday, September 8, 2008 after the photos of the production car got uploaded briefly on its website by mistake. The duration, however, was long enough for the pictures to get circulated across the web.

The photos showing the production Volt and development team members has reached various websites, much to the woes of General Motors, before its launch. General Motors now plans to reveal the production Volt to commemorate its 100th anniversary the coming week.  The milestone occurs Sept. 16. At the 2006 at the Detroit auto show, the Volt concept car was widely seen. But GM maintained tight secrecy as far as the production car is concerned.

GM has been using the previous-generation Chevrolet Malibu to test and develop the Volt's series hybrid powertrain, E-Flex. The left front corner of the Volt production car was revealed by GM recently to explain styling modifications made to lessen aerodynamic drag. The new pictures show that the production Volt is not as chic and sleek as its concept car introduced previously.
