Design and Looks
The Nokia 5070 sports a very practical design. It has a large rectangular body with flat front and back which are coloured white. The sides are adorned in either blue or red depending on the colour scheme. The most outstanding feature of the design is probably the back which is ribbed to prevent slippage.
The phone’s design is essentially a tribute to the older generation of mobile phones and is designed to be large on purpose: to cater to the niche segment of users who prefer practicality to style.
The phone has nice large front keys and a nice big keypad. Each key on the alphanumeric keypad is raised to offer improved touch orientation. The design is fabulous as it lets users to text fast but at the same time they are less susceptible to make errors.
The phone sports a 1.87 inch display that looks larger than it really is thanks to glossy black surface encircling it. The low resolution of 128 x 160 does not go well with the large display and makes it look cheap and grainy. The CSTN display is also hard to read under direct sunlight.
The Nokia 5070’s only outstanding feature is the FM Radio but there is no option to scan channels automatically. So, you will have to manually input the frequency number before saving it to the phone’s memory. Also, there is no RDS support with the phone. The phone’s internal memory is very low at 4MB. So, there are only so many applications, pictures and videos you can save up to at a time.
The phone sports a VGA camera that takes pictures at a maximum resolution of 640 x 480 and videos at a maximum resolution of 128 x 96 pixels. These figures don’t look like much but you cannot really expect much from the camera on a basic phone.
And another thing worth mentioning is the lack of a software CD and data cable with the retail packaging; you will have to download Nokia PC Suite and source the data cable from elsewhere if you want to sync your phone to the computer.
To cut it short, the phone is simply outmoded. There are far better alternatives available in the market today, but if your heart is already set on this classic looking phone- go for it.
