Design and Looks
Magic stands at 113x55x13.7mm and weighs 119grams making it a very light phone which makes it a little while to get used to. The body is complete plastic and is also fingerprint resistant.
The front of the phone sports the 3.2 inch display capable of showing 320x480 pixels on a HVGA screen with 65K colors. The image quality is sharp and has a good contrast to it. The sunlight eligibility is pretty good and the display performs amazingly well even in broad daylight.
At the bottom of the screen the phone has the trackball and also comes with 6 buttons. The trackball on the phone is complete with features such as zooming during the use of camera and also with use as a D-pad. The side of the phone only features the volume rocker and apart from this there are no keys available on the phone at the sides.
On the multimedia front the phone supports a good multimedia player with straightforward simple options. The music player on the HTC Magic is also again a decent one with features such as one click search to Google or YouTube.
The phone is equipped with 3 megapixel camera with a maximum image resolution of 2048x1536 pixels. Unfortunately there is no flash on the phone which makes it a little difficult with low light shooting.
The camera interface is much more functional, tapping the screen reveals the digital zoom bar on the left. The metering mode, sharpness, saturation and contrast of the photos can be all set and one can also add a viewfinder gridline to assist while framing. The viewfinder allows changing the capture mode, image resolution and also the white balance.
The communication on the phone features the quad band support with GSM/GPRS/EDGE. There is 3G support included too and the phone is capable of international roaming. The 7.2Mbps HSDPA and 2Mbps HSUPA ensure there are blazing speeds on offer on the phone. USB is supported on the phone but the Bluetooth can only be used for headset support. The Wi-Fi support on the phone is easy and simple to start also hassle free.
GPS onboard takes a time to get a lock on the satellite, the only application which works with it is the Google Maps. The interface is different and thus quick double tapping can no longer be used for zooming. It can be achieved by tapping the two virtual buttons at the bottom of the screen. It also comes with the street view mode and is the highlight of the Google Maps on the phone.
The android market follows the same principal of the Apple’s App store and thus software’s can be downloaded free on the internet. Magic overall gives a bright future to the Android interface and Google phones for the future. The phone is a reasonable purchase and offers a good deal to the consumer.
