Mercedes-Benz, a subsidiary of German car corporation Daimler AG, entered the Indian automobile market in 1994. The company was established as a joint venture between Daimler-Benz and Telco, for the manufacture and sales of their cars in India. It came to be known as DaimlerChrysler India Private Ltd after its parent company, Daimler, was merged with Chrysler. In 2007, Daimler Chrysler sold its majority of equity shares to Chrysler. As a result, Daimler Chrysler was renamed as Mercedes-Benz India.
In the present time, Mercedes-Benz India is a fully owned subsidiary of Daimler AG. Headquartered in Pune, it produces cars, positioned in the luxury segment of vehicles in India.
