World's largest car manufacturer - General Motors - entered the Indian automobile business in 1994. Established in the country as a 50-50 joint venture, with the CK Birla Group, General Motors India Private Limited became a fully owned subsidiary of its parent company, later on. The automaker initially launched its European brand Opel - in the late 90s in India. However, it failed to interest the consumers. As a result, Opel cars were taken off from the Indian market.
General Motors India made a comeback with the introduction of Chevrolet cars. Popularly known as Chevy, the cars belonging to this family are known for their superior performance, comfort and stunning looks. Over the passing years, the automobile manufacturer has established its name in the car market of India. The vehicle assembly plants of the company are located in Halol and Talagaon near Pune, Maharashtra. Headquartered in Gurgaon, Haryana, General Motors India Private Limited also operates a large technical center in Bangalore.
