Engine
Maruti Gypsy is powered by MPFI engine. The maximum power of 80 bhp @ 6000 rpm makes it easier for passing through streams. The engine quickly heats up under extremely cold conditions and avoids being over-heated in hot climate terrain. The maximum torque of Gypsy is 103 Nm @ 4500 rpm. The 1300 cc gasoline engine is lighter than the diesel one, which helps in ensuring better control, more power and greater receptiveness.
Design And Comfort
Over the passing years, a few modifications have been done in the design of Maruti Gypsy, in order to improvise its looks. The new model comes with a wider track and all-round leaf suspension. However, the original three-door layout has remained unchanged. Gypsy features a sturdy and robust structure, which is specially designed to ensure smooth drive in rugged terrain. The added advantage it its light weight. However, the 'too little' legroom and high-floor seats make Gypsy less suitable for family use.
Interiors
Maruti Gypsy is a utilitarian SUV, with basic and functional interiors. The ruf-n-tuf vehicle is equipped with a handy grab-rail and lockable glove box. To give a commanding view of the road, the front seats of the SUV have been high-set. The soft-top variant of the vehicle comes with two centre-facing benches, while the hardtop Gypsy offers a conventional bench.
Ride And Handling
The 5-speed gearbox of Maruti Gypsy provides better mileage and high cruising speed on highways. The good, power to weight ratio, of 0.0812, gives better acceleration and makes it safer to cross dirt tracks. The high thermal conductivity of the engine enables the SUV to give off heat much faster on a hot terrain. The higher ground clearance of Gypsy ensures better off-road (rough terrain) handling. Although it has a gigantic structure, the automobile is very lightweight as compared to other SUVs.

Safety
The diaphragm spring clutch of Gypsy, designed to withstand higher rotational speeds, reduced wear and tear of its parts. The steering damper protects the steering wheel, thereby avoiding discomfort of sudden jerks due to potholes and bumps. However, Gypsy lacks reel-type seatbelts and airbags, which is a major drawback of the SUV when it comes to safety.
